The visionary game developer, renowned for co-creating the globally famous first-person shooter Call of Duty, has passed away in a traffic collision in the state of California at the age of 55.

The tragic news was verified by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, a game studio he co-founded.

The celebrated industry figure passed away following his vehicle was involved in a crash and caught fire on a highway in Los Angeles on Sunday morning, US media outlets report.

"We are facing a devastating loss, and we stand with his family and friends, those closest to him, and the countless individuals inspired by his creative vision," a representative from Electronic Arts said.
