The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series by Critical Role, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching backstories for characters such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

Overall, the intro appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the music selection.

This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one put out by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. This track that excites you before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.

Of course, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have a few surprises and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be among these.

The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to get to know the characters of the second series, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
